THE HERO INSIDE PROGRAMME

IDENTITY, WELL-BEING & CULTURAL HERITAGE

The Hero Inside Programme: London was commissioned by Southwark Leadership, Innovation and Learning Department. The Borough of Southwark is an ethnically, linguistically and culturally diverse with over 45% African descent students. The programme had to address barriers to learning, close the achievement gap in Literacy and engage parents. 

The Hero Inside Programme that was developed was led from a Black perspective and creatively engaged all cultural groups to address Southwark's long term objectives. Positive cultural role models and artists were integrated into the programme to inspire creative writing, story telling and enhance personal well-being. 

The programme culminated in a public exhibition at the Menier Gallery showcasing the creative achievements of the six participating schools alongside a rare collection of African American comics including the inspirational historical comic book series 'The Golden Legacy'.



NATIONAL CONFERENCES

The Hero Inside Programme: London was showcased at the following conferences: DCSF National Strategies, Southwark Inclusion and at the Capita Community Cohesion Conference in London. It was a leading example of an innovative creative arts learning programme, engaging audiences and enhancing respect and understanding among diverse communities.
