TEACHER TRAINING

EMPOWERING TEACHERS WITH NEW SKILLS

The Hero Inside Programme: Abu Dhabi teacher training session gave the teachers an opportunity to deepen their understanding of Stage One of the programme.

They experienced some of the well-being and drama strategies that enabled their participants to overcome their personal challenges and encourage collective storytelling. The training demonstrated how teachers could support their students' self-development and facilitate the cultivation of new ideas.

The teacher development session was very focused, and engaging. The atmosphere created was very relaxed. It was invaluable to share the experience of the programme with other teachers.

DIGITAL LEARNING RESOURCE

ARABIC STORYTELLING & INQUIRY BASED LEARNING

The Digital Resource was a dedicated learning platform for the teachers, artists and ADMAF project managers involved in the two month arts initiative. The platform encouraged schools to develop inquiry-based investigations related to Arabic story telling and the three stages of the programme. The password protected website included access to a multi-media resource bank of inspirational people,  international illustrators, Arabic stories and active learning strategies to develop self-awareness in the learning environment.

The programme has been really positive and enabled me to experience new educational ideas involving different arts forms.

DRAMA WRITING AND WELL BEING WORKSHOPS

STAGE ONE CREATE FROM WITHIN

In Stage One the children really opened up, they found a voice and discovered that there are different ways to communicate. Communication is not just about words. The students realised movement and body language can also give us messages.
— Teacher from Glenelg

DRAMA WRITING & WELL BEING WORKSHOPS

The drama and well-being workshops, led by writer/ director Paul Anthony Morris, provided the foundation to the programme. Through observation and inquiry, participants were encouraged to contemplate the hero within to discover their own heroic attributes. Using multiple drama techniques such as hot seating, improvisation, role-play, forum theatre and Live Comic Arts the participants were able to unEarth their own and others' personal achievements and attributes. They investigated new storytelling concepts, explored the significance of symbolism, dialogue, creative description, subtext and plot.

STAGE TWO YOUR  STORY

Working with the Creative Director and his team was inspirational.

ILLUSTRATION WORKSHOPS TO ANIMATE STORIES

The field trip to tadreeb included watching a short animation film about the creative work of twofour54 before being introduced to Dr. Hosni’s Mojahed's Arabic comic characters. In the studio, students worked in groups to develop skills in sketching, inking and colouring. In the second workshop held at the schools the students learnt about drawing settings, developing a character and the principles of perspective.

New York University students were introduced to the software StoryboardPro and the range of different camera shots that can be employed to aid storytelling in animation.
